RaceM F3F - What's Up With That?
Posted by Greg Smith on Nov 17, 2004, 23:45

Here is the low down on the RaceM F3F.

The construction is very similar to the Wizard Compact although the plane is bigger. It has a 2-piece wing. Standard lay-up is Carbon 93 and balsa for the F3F. It has a pretty radical plan form and a proprietary airfoil developed by the Swedish F3B team. The airfoil is kept secret by the designers but Espen thinks it is based on RG14, the thickness is about 8%. I am flying the F3F version and it has a 2960mm span. It has a UMS (HIGH MODULE CARBON) spar. My first RaceM has a similar full flying stab to the Wizard Compact. It is also available with a conventional V-tail.

So far I love this plane! It flies like a bigger Wizard and has a very good groove. It holds energy well and flies in lighter lift that the Wiz. It really comes alive when the wind comes up. I've had it on many different slopes from the local 50 foot Lake Michigan test slope to the top of Francis Peak in Utah where it had its maiden flight.

The RaceM at about 9,400 feet covering a lot of ground at Francis Peak.

So far the most fun was a 20 mph day at Wilson Lake where I tried out ballast the first time.

I'll be flying this plane a lot more so I'll be updating this section regularly.
