Rotor Build Part 1: Preassembly and Component Weights

Thought I would share my typical TWF assembly procedure.  This particular TWF is my version of a Rotor.

  1. Wash Fuse:  Wash the fuse with soap and water to wash the mold release off.

  2. Trim Parts:  Trim the part to final outline, e.g., trim the LE’s, TE’s, Roots, Tips.  You can leave final finish until later, but you need to have everything to shape before you start assembly.

  3. Wing Rod Hole:  Drill the wing rod hole through the fuse.  Use a forstner bit or a tube cutter.

  4. Weigh Everything:  Yup, I know that this is a slope plane, but it helps to know where the weight is for the next design or next build.  Here are the weights for this Rotor and the Winch Doctor Blineron (pitcheron/wingeron drive hardware).

Rotor and blingeron preassembly weight information.

Wood blocks wedged into the fuse prior to drilling the wing rod hole.

Wing rod hole drilled with a forstner bit.

Winch Doctor Blineron - pitcheron/wingeron drive hardware.

Trimmed blingeron - the width of the monoblock was trimmed on a disk sander.
