Dremel Tools

Dremel tools are such an important part of a modeler's tool box that I've made a section especially for the best rotary tools on the market.

If you are an avid modeler like me you probably have a bunch of Dremel tools to help speed up your building and give you precise control of any task including cutting, grinding, carving, routing, sharpening, drilling, polishing, or sanding. Even if you are a casual modeler you will still benefit from at least one of the following models, or the accessories I’ve found useful.

If you choose only one Dremel rotary tool, look at the battery powered versions. They give great performance in both the shop and at the field.

Choose at least a two-speed Dremel model if possible. The fully variable speed modes are really nice but the two-speed versions will at least be serviceable and the two speeds are appropriate for most of the modeler’s material selection.

There are many different Dremel models to choose from. Here are a few items that I have had experience with.

When I first saw the Dremel Stylus, a cordless rotary tool, I knew I had to try it because it incorporates a couple of features I've been looking for. Variable speed, Easy to hold grip, Cordless, Lithium powered for long run times and it uses standard Dremel bits.

I bought this model while I was attending Soar Utah 2004. I left my trusty 7.2 volt Multipro at home and REALLY needed a Dremel to finish up the installation of the radio gear in my RaceM. This Dremel is a 10.8V rotary tool with variable speeds from 5,000 - 35,000 rpm.

The 7700-01 is an update of one of my most used Dremel tools, my original red and black, 7.2 volt MultiPro model 770.
