Revamped Barracuda
Posted by Greg Smith on Aug 23, 2006, 16:23

Getting ready for Soar Utah I decided to revamp my Barracuda some. It was looking pretty haggared. I mostly fly it when conditions are rippin' and it has not always arrived back on the Earth gracefully. So something of a refit was in order.

After surveying the general shape of the 'Cuda I found a few areas that really needed attention.

I took out the flap servos and just battened down the flaps. They are prone to damage and the torque rod and brass tube linkage was geting really loose.

I reset the incidence of the tail. It has never been right since I go the thing so this was an opportunity to make it right.

I fixed up the fuse fillets and tail where it was split.

Finally, I made it even badder looking by trading the Doug Reel purple for black on the fuse, wing and tail. Looks good from about 10 feet away. There was some reaction between the Krylon and whatever else was on the plane so I got some wrinkles in the paint. Well, someday I may do a total refurb but this will look good in flying pix anyway.

Now to fly this bad boy again!
